News re Tabla Space

Hello,

We wanted to update you on some news regarding Tabla’s former home on Madison Square Park.  We are pleased to announce that a new restaurant from one of Peru’s most celebrated culinary figures, Gastón Acurio, will be moving into the space.

Ever since we announced Tabla’s closing a few months ago, we have been considering a variety of options to assure a bright future for our former restaurant’s glorious space overlooking Madison Square Park. We ultimately ruled out doing something there ourselves, as we're already conceiving and opening two brand new restaurants this year: Untitled (next week at the Whitney); and North End Grill (opening at the end of 2011 in Battery Park City).

Over the last few months, we have enjoyed getting to know the exceptional team from the restaurant group, La Mar, who fell in love with the space and the Madison Square Park community. Based in Lima, La Mar was founded by Gastón Acurio, who made it his mission to share the joys of Peruvian gastronomy and wave the Peruvian flag throughout the world. He's incredibly excited to be opening in New York.

La Mar owns and operates several successful and critically acclaimed Peruvian cebicherías in South America, México, as well as one in San Francisco.  Their parent company has Peruvian restaurants, under different concepts, in most major cities in South America and Madrid, Spain. La Mar has been searching for the right space in New York for some time, and as soon as they saw the Tabla space, they knew they found the perfect new home for their restaurant.

In addition to being enormously impressed with the individuals behind their company, we were also drawn to their culture of hospitality, culinary excellence and demonstrated commitment to being part of the communities in which they do business. We’re thrilled to welcome the La Mar team to Madison Square Park and believe this new restaurant will be a great boon to the neighborhood. We're confident that La Mar will begin a wonderful next culinary chapter to follow Tabla.
